“The Marvels” Review

The Marvels: Directed by Nia DaCosta. With Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani, Samuel L. Jackson. Carol Danvers gets her powers entangled with those of Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau, forcing them to work together to save the universe.

It’s finally out! I’m such a huge fan of Iman Vellani and her Ms. Marvel character and “The Marvels” deliveries absolutely everything I could hope for in a movie that features my new favorite MCU character along with more known (Captain Marvel) and vastly less known (Professor Marvel). There’s plenty of cats too, which is always a plus, along with a whole team of cat herders that are also doing scientific stuff when they’re not trying to keep their stuff from being eaten by space cats.

If you had any trepidations about watching the film due to the weight of what you COULD watch before watching this movie, please let me assure you that you don’t need to watch anything at all before seeing it. If you happen to latch onto any of the character however, there’s plenty of other stuff with them in it that you can catch up on.

Also, if you found the performative preachiness of the first film to be a turn off, it’s completely absent in this highly superior sequel to 2019’s Captain Marvel. I was in that camp, but I’m of the opinion that there’s a time an place for that type of content and that was exactly what was needed at that time and place.

Also, there’s two stingers, one at the immediate end of the film and one in the mid-credits, no need to sit around until the end of the credits unless you want to see the absolutely massive wall of talented VFX workers getting their due recognition.
