“Cop Out” Review

Cop Out: Directed by Kevin Smith. With Bruce Willis, Tracy Morgan, Juan Carlos Hernández, Cory Fernandez. Jimmy’s rare baseball card is robbed. Since it’s his only hope to pay for his daughter’s upcoming wedding, he recruits his cop partner Paul to track down the robber, a memorabilia-obsessed gangster.

Many people point to this film when they say that Kevin Smith can’t hack it has a director of anything other than his own material and while I agree that his strengths are with things that he has complete editorial control over, I disagree with the idea that this is a bad film. The story is great, the jokes all land, and for better or worse, Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan both prove why they’re appreciated by so many. The worst I can say about it is that this is an antiquated type of movie with elements that aren’t done all that much these days.

As a side note, I remember this movie as the first movie that I ever watched from the treadmill that I had at the time. I walked the entire thing and I think I ended up doing about 7 miles. It ended up doing me more harm than good though because it started a cycle of doing too much on the treadmill, then not using it for weeks on end.

That wasn’t the movie’s fault.
