Directed by Nicolas Roeg. With Anjelica Huston, Mai Zetterling, Jasen Fisher, Rowan Atkinson. A young boy stumbles onto a witch convention and must stop them, even after he has been turned into a mouse.
A movie made in 1990 but feels like it’s from 1960s, which isn’t so much of a complaint as a quaint observation. I went in cold, just knowing that it was later remade and only vaguely knowing it was about witches, so I was somewhat surprised to see The Jim Henson Co’s logo in the title cards. Turns out they did all the mouse puppetry, and did it extremely well. There’s live action mouse work as well and I was surprised at how well the two worked with each other.
As a side note, our local PBS is doing a Downton Abbey marathon right now, so it was humorous to see the Jim Carter (Butler Carson) as the head chef in the kitchen. I’m not even sure I would have caught him there if it wasn’t for the fact I watched them back to back!Favorite This!
