The chemistry between Kevin Costner and Diane Lane is real and palpable on the screen, this is the first time they’ve shared a movie since 2013’s “Man of Steel”, and while they didn’t exactly blow me away in the comic book movie, they definitely did the work for “Let Him Go” which is a standard sounding film but with a few interesting wrinkles to the tried and true formula of looking for a loved one and finding that they’re unable to leave their situation without a large amount of violence. The film is smartly set in the 1960s, so there’s an appropriate level of seclusion to scenes set in a North Dakota town, even when they’re in a diner or clothing store. It’s an emotionally ambitious movie and sticks the landing.
