“Spider-Man” Review

| Amazon

Spider-Man: Directed by Sam Raimi. With Tobey Maguire, Willem Dafoe, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco. When bitten by a genetically modified spider, a nerdy, shy, and awkward high school student gains spider-like abilities that he eventually must use to fight evil as a superhero after tragedy befalls his family.

I bought a 4k set of the blu-rays, so now I think I have the entirety of the Spider-man franchise on 4k disk. The transfer itself is pretty well done, though at times there’s a significant amount of digital noise that gets stupidly noticeable. I was still able to forget that I watching the movie with an eye for how it looked in 4k and kept getting sucked into the story. It was great to see Macho Man and Bruce Campbell again, I always forget how cool they are in this film, and every time I watch this trilogy I’m surprised at Danny Elfman’s music and just how noticeable it is. A new thing I noticed this that is that there’s a huge Chock Full of Nuts sign in the downtown NY scene right before Stan Lee’s cameo.

I had forgotten how impossibly awkward and hopeless peter parker was as played by Toby, other than the organic webshooters, Cliff Robertson and Rosemary Harris are my favorite versions of Uncle Ben and Aunt May, as they’re so damn close to what I always envisioned from my time reading the comics
