Right at the beginning of the film, the main character is presented as a 911 operator who takes a couple emergency calls, then during a lull in action, gets a phone call from an unlisted number on his cell phone. I don’t know about anyone else that might ever read this review, but my personal cellphone has been under attack from spammers for the last 10 years and I do everything I can do either have unlisted numbers to straight to voice mail or I just silence their calls. I never ever ever pick those “unknown caller” calls because all that does is verify that you have a working phone number for them to continue to call. So why does he pick it up? He says maybe it could be a new job or something, but even in those situations, the employers would leave a VM and you could call them right back. Why did they have the call come through as “unknown caller” to begin with? It’s not like he would recognize the reporter’s phone number!
Besides that mind jarring break from reality, the rest of this film is highly energetic and captivating, which is great for a film that takes place in one (maybe two?) rooms and focuses on just a single character. The ending of the film is pure fantasy though, and I’d love to see a fan edit where a more realistic resolution happens. Luckily most if not all of the ending is done with news channel voice overs, so I think it could be easily done.
