“The Wizard of Oz” Review

| Amazon

Directed by Victor Fleming, George Cukor, Mervyn LeRoy. With Judy Garland, Frank Morgan, Ray Bolger, Bert Lahr. Dorothy Gale is swept away from a farm in Kansas to a magical land of Oz in a tornado and embarks on a quest with her new friends to see the Wizard who can help her return home to Kansas and help her friends as well.

I was lazing about on my couch as my roku 4k player scrolled through it’s city scape screensaver and I saw one of the buildboard ads for HBO Max, featuring The Wizard of Oz. It’s been years since I’ve seen it and I needed to get HBO Max installed so I could watch the new WW84 movie (which turned out to be perfectly meh), but by clicking on the ad, they got me to install the app (what a chore! had to hand type everything in, no phone login!), but immediately after the install, The WOZ started right up, it was an alarmingly seemless series of events.

This was one of my mom’s favorite movies, so I decided to stick around and watch the whole thing. It wasn’t in 4k (no much on HBO Max is) though I know there’s a 4k treatment for it out there. Maybe in a few years I can get the 4k disk and give it a go, but this simple HD version of the film still impressed, and I’m happy I stuck around to watch the entire thing.
