“Aladdin” Review

| Amazon

Directed by Guy Ritchie. With Will Smith, Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, Marwan Kenzari. A kind-hearted street urchin and a power-hungry Grand Vizier vie for a magic lamp that has the power to make their deepest wishes come true.

Back when I originally watched this in the before time, back when theaters were open and the world was slightly less horrifying to go out into, I somewhat enjoyed the changes and additions they made to the animated version, but rewatching it at home I’ve found I enjoyed it even more and in 4k/hdr it really pops, two scenes specifically, when Jasmin is walking down the stairs with all that damn texture on the walls and on her dress, then when Prince Ali is arriving with all his entourage and there’s just so much color and things happening. Such a gorgeous set of scenes!

There’s some fun deleted scenes on Disney+ as well, for the most part it’s good they’re not in the film, but happy to see that they were at least considering some of the additions I thought might have made a good story point or two.
